Workshops add value and provide learning but can be difficult to translate into the day-to-day work environment. We want to make sure that the content from the workshop has an impact beyond the session – the whole purpose of this workshop is to positively impact your day-to-day work life.
This quick article is aimed at providing some steps to advance what you learned and apply it to your day-to-day life.
Here are 3 steps to apply what you learned from the workshop into your work:
- Review the exercises and content: Going through the workshop will give you insights and new ways of approaching challenges and opportunities in your organization. But, it also can go quickly and be tough to absorb everything in the 1.5 hour workshop. The materials provided can be reviewed, the video rewatched (you’ll have access to the video via Zoom), and the worksheets re-visited. Don’t rush into application, make sure you have an understanding of the info before you take it to the team.
- Share the content with your team: One of the best ways to make an impact is to invite others into the work with you. The materials provided are intended to get the conversation started, and can be shared with your colleagues. Broach the topic in small, safe ways, to start. Begin with those you already have a good relationship with, advocates for the work, and those that you know will buy-in and support you. From there, you can spread the word more broadly across the organization.
- Execute the action plan from the workshop: As part of the workshop, you designed clear action steps you could take to apply the framework and methodologies with your partners, teams, and clients. After reviewing the content and locking in the learning, sharing the content and getting buy-in from the team, it’s now time to execute and bring it all home.
It’s not always easy
As you’re applying what you learned, you may encounter some bumps in the road, resistance from others, or a lack of commitment from the team around you. This is common. It’s hard to take an experience you had on your own and invite others into it. Every culture takes to these approaches differently, and it requires thoughtful application of the material to apply it and make it stick. And, most importantly, you don’t have to apply everything. It’s hard to change everything, it’s much more manageable to change a few things. Even doing a few small things can go a long way.
If you’re struggling to apply what you learned, you can take reach out for support:
- Check in with others from the workshop: One of the advantages of the workshop is you get to meet other business professionals just like you who are trying to make a difference. They’re in the same spot you are – trying to apply the learning. Utilizing the community from the workshop is a great way to learn methods that might support you, and yours might support them!
- Reach out to our team: The support doesn’t stop just because the workshop is over. We want to make sure that the learning lands and makes a difference for you and your team. We’re here, and we’re happy to help.
